Fuel Consumption Calculator – Calculate Car Consumption and Trip Fuel Costs
The fuel consumption calculator computes your car's fuel consumption (mpg or l/100km) based on distance traveled between fill-ups and gallons/liters pumped. Also calculates trip fuel costs.
Enter the distance between fill-ups, fuel amount pumped, and fuel price to get consumption in mpg or l/100km and cost per mile/100km. You can track consumption over time and compare different driving styles or seasonal effects.
What's Good Fuel Consumption for a Gas Car?
City driving often increases consumption to 20-30 mpg (8-12 l/100km), highway driving achieves 30-40 mpg (5-7 l/100km). Hybrids can achieve 45-50 mpg in the city (4-5 l/100km). Diesel cars typically consume 15-20% less than gasoline at the same power level. Electric car consumption is measured in kWh/100km – typically 15-20 kWh/100km.

Enter fuel amount and driven kilometers, and the calculator shows actual consumption in liters per 100 km.
- Calculate actual fuel consumption (l/100 km) based on fill-up.
- Compare consumption across different driving periods or conditions.
- Estimate fuel cost for specific trips.
Actual consumption often differs from manufacturer's stated figures – this is normal.
- City driving typically consumes 10–30% more than highway driving.
- Winter driving, air conditioning, and rapid acceleration increase consumption.
- Average of multiple fill-ups is more reliable than single measurements.
Monitoring consumption helps identify changes and potential problems.
- Sudden increase in consumption may indicate technical issues.
- Tire pressure, driving style, and load significantly affect consumption.
- The calculator doesn't store your data – record results for long-term tracking.
