Barbell Plate Calculator – Calculate Which Plates Go on Each Side of the Bar
The barbell plate calculator determines which plates are needed on each side of the bar to achieve your target total weight. Enter your goal weight and bar weight to get the optimal plate combination.
The tool supports standard plates (2.5-55 lbs and 1.25-25 kg). You'll see multiple options for combining plates and a visual representation of the loaded barbell. Perfect for gym workout planning.
How to Calculate Barbell Weight Correctly?
An Olympic barbell typically weighs 45 lbs (men's) or 35 lbs (women's). Total weight = bar weight + plates on both sides combined. If you want to lift 220 lbs and the bar weighs 45 lbs, you need 175 lbs of plates, or 87.5 lbs per side: e.g., 45 + 25 + 10 + 2.5 lbs per side. The plate calculator computes this automatically.
