Swimming Pace Calculator – Calculate swimming pace, splits, and race estimates
Swimming pace calculator computes swimming pace (min/100m), split times, and estimated race times for different distances. Enter completed distance and time for all calculations.
Tool supports swimmers at all levels: recreational to competitive. Calculates 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m estimates at current pace and shows comparisons across different strokes.
What's a good swimming pace for recreational swimmers?
Beginner recreational swimmer pace is typically 2:30–3:30 min/100m. Advanced recreational swimmers do 1:45–2:15 min/100m. Competitive swimmers target under 1:30/100m, elite swimmers under 1:00/100m. Men's world record for 100m freestyle is around 47 seconds (under 0:50/100m). Regular training improves pace by 5–10% per season.

Enter two of three values (distance, time, pace), and the calculator computes the missing one.
- Calculate pace (min/100m) based on distance and time.
- Find total time for a given distance at target pace.
- Estimate race times for different distances (50m, 100m, 400m, 1500m).
Pace shows average speed – actual speed varies with turns and starting pace.
- Pool length matters: 25m pools have more turns gaining time, 50m pools have fewer.
- Different strokes' (freestyle, backstroke, etc.) paces aren't directly comparable.
- Even pace is usually the most efficient strategy for longer distances.
Swimming pace is a training planning tool – listen to your body in the water.
- Technique improvement affects pace more than just fitness building.
- Calculator doesn't account for currents or open water swimming differences.
- Your data isn't stored – record results in a training log.
