Tile Calculator – Calculate Required Wall and Floor Tile Quantities

Tile calculator computes required number of ceramic tiles based on surface area, tile size, and installation direction. Accounts for waste, grout spacing, and diagonal installation.

Enter tiled surface dimensions and tile size, and the calculator determines tile quantity in pieces and square feet. Diagonal installation (45°) requires about 15% more tiles. Calculator adds 10% waste allowance.

How Many Tiles Are Needed for a 100 sq ft Bathroom?

With 4" × 4" tiles (9 tiles per sq ft), 100 sq ft requires about 990 pieces including waste allowance. With 12" × 24" tiles (about 0.5 tiles per sq ft), the same area needs about 55 tiles. Remember to order everything from the same batch — tiles from different batches may have color variations.

📚 More Info

The tile calculator estimates the required number of tiles and grout needed based on the dimensions of the area to be tiled. A handy tool for renovators and builders to calculate material requirements.

✅ What does this do?

Enter the dimensions of the area to be tiled and tile size, and the calculator will tell you the required number of tiles and grout consumption.

  • Calculate the required number of tiles in pieces and square meters.
  • Account for joint width in material consumption calculations.
  • Automatically add waste allowance for cutting and breakage.
🧠 How to interpret results?

The calculator gives a theoretical consumption – in practice, waste always occurs from cutting and fitting.

  • Add 5-15% waste allowance to the result depending on the laying pattern.
  • Diagonal laying and complex patterns significantly increase waste.
  • Buy all tiles from the same batch – different batches may have color variations.
⚠️ Good to know

Successful tiling also depends on substrate evenness, adhesive selection, and work technique.

  • In wet areas, waterproofing must be done before tiling.
  • Selection of tile adhesive and grout depends on the application area.
  • For larger projects, consulting a professional can save time and money.
Note: The calculator is indicative – always order slightly extra tiles for waste and future repairs.
